Courageous Women – Bravery in The Face of Adversity

July 14, 2017 | Caryn Walsh

Nothing great in life is achieved without passion and courage. Passion to have the raw energy to achieve what it is that a person wants to and courage to not let their fear, uncertainty or trepidation stop them, or allow them to falter.

Strong women who go out and get what they want in life are seen to be brave and courageous and are dedicated to their cause or belief.

Courageous Women over Time.

There is a plethora of courageous women who have changed history with all of them having both courage and passion to make a significant difference:

  • Emmeline Pankhurst (1858 – 1928) was a British political activist and leader of the British suffragette movement who helped women win the right to vote
  • Joan of Arc: Born into a peasant family, ‘The Maid of Orléans’ was, at 19, a heroine of France for her role as a visionary and martyr during the Hundred Years’ War. Burnt at the stake in 1431, she was canonised in 1920 and became one of the nine secondary saints of France.
  • Naw Rebecca Htin, Myanmar: She and her husband, both doctors, started a mobile clinic to provide care to ethnic minorities in rural areas in Myanmar (also known as Burma.) She experienced the fear that people living there had for their lives every day and sought to address the root causes of the conflict.  She currently supports ceasefire negotiations between the government and ethnic armed groups.
  • Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate. She is known for human rights advocacy for education and for women in her native Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, where the local Taliban had at times banned girls from attending school. Her advocacy has since grown into an international movement.

Fear as a Debilitating Factor.

Fear, probably the strongest of all emotions, can be both liberating and disempowering.  Fear comes in so many different forms – physical symptoms such as headaches or sore backs, emotional difficulties such as depression or anxiety and mental confusion such as memory loss or forgetfulness.

Fear prevents countless women from doing something because they may be scared of the outcomes, the unknown or the changes their actions may bring.

Don’t let Fear stop you!

When you think of the wonderful things you want to achieve, what is the fear that stops you?  What are the thoughts you have that prevent you from striving to do whatever it is, in all aspects of your life, that you would love to?

Have courage, believe in yourself and leave fear behind if you want to achieve great things in your business and life.
