Claire Stretch | Managing Director | FilmStretch
Tell us about your business:
I am Managing Director, Producer and Creative Director at FilmStretch which is a business that I started with my Husband Brendon Stretch back in January 2010. There are two main areas of my work one is marketing and sales then there is production which is a bit like being a sergeant major as there are so many details to be covered in video production - and we aim to carry all the weight for the client leaving them free to join in as much or as little as they want to.
I love doing live shoots of events and also editing live events as magic can happen during the process. If you shoot with 3 cameras it means that you then have lots of coverage to cut between and the creativity can really kick in.

What's been your most outstanding career/business achievement?
Winning 3 awards this year has been unbelievable, we won our Canterbury Local Business Award in the category of Outstanding New Business. I won an award for Best Business Plan at the end of a 3 month NSW Trade and Investment supported Women in Film and TV mentoring program. We also won Best Coaching Tool of 2011 awarded by Australia and NZ Institute of Coaching.
This was for a collaborative project we did with Noel Posus of Incredible Awareness, called thewheelsoflife.com. It features 65 ten to fifteen minutes video tutorials along with workbooks by Noel. It was quite a lot of work so lovely for it to get recognised.
What are your top 3 networking tips?
l Be yourself
l Be open
l Go up to people who are by themselves and start a conversation
What's been your most successful marketing or career progression strategy?
Overcoming shyness and diving into networking and meeting people has definitely been a major turning point in my career. Looking back I can see that it was by overcoming my fear of presenting, by doing a lot of Presentation Skills training, and also a Train the Trainer course with my last employee, the dynamic Allan Parker of Peak Performance, that really helped me get over my self-consciousness. Eventually I realised that it's not about me, rather it's about what I can offer others 'Attention Outwards' has become a mantra.
What can't you live without?
My husband, dog, chocolate, movies, scrabble, crosswords and nature.

I've met loads of fantastic women from all kinds of industries and sizes of companies and I always enjoy Lynette's wonderful captaining of the WNA luncheons. Tongue in cheek while serious, or maybe she's serious while tongue in cheek. Love her style. And love the energy and engagement level that is always in the room.
