Finding Creative Solutions Whilst Competitors are Still Struggling with Problems!Tania De Jong AM, Director, Creativity Australia
Organisations know their ability to innovate lies in the creativity and abilities of their people and each individual needs to understand and adopt internal thinking processes that increase the potential for new thinking and meaningful leadership. In today's fragmented world we need to help people get out of their 'pigeon holes' and connect into the right side of their brain. This will lead to a host of benefits including increased self esteem, resilience, productivity and social inclusion. Creativity is the strategic tool of the 21st Century. Tania de Jong is the Director of Creativity Australia. She is a graduate of the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Law with Honours and the Victorian College of the Arts. Tania is considered to be one of Australia's most talented sopranos. She has performed with the Victoria State Opera and as a soloist with a number of orchestras and has performed in over 40 countries and released seven CDs. In 2006 Tania received the Ernst and Young Australian Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Her other awards include the 'Outstanding Individual Contribution to Australian Culture', Churchill Fellowship and the Accessibility Award in The Melbourne Awards. She was a finalist in the Telstra Business Women's Awards and has recently been inducted into the AGSE Entrepreneurs Hall of Fame at Swinburne University. Tania was named Brainlink Woman of Achievement 2009. Tania was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in June 2008 for service to the arts as a performer and entrepreneur. She works with a number of disadvantaged migrants and communities, as well as developing and presenting unique leadership programs for organisations including BHP, Telstra, ANZ, La Trobe and Melbourne Universities. One of the greatest challenges we all face today is overcoming the barriers to stimulating creativity and innovation. We need to constantly create opportunities to connect with one another in new and meaningful ways. The barriers are ever present - we interact with boxes/screens instead of with one another. We are in danger of becoming a society where alienation, disengagement and self centredness are entrenched in a world where human beings fail to capitalise on building lives and relationships that are generative and creative.
