Tell us about your business:
I'm a market and social research consultant working with small to medium businesses and not-for-profit organisations in conducting research to further their organisational goals. Every business is unique, but to sustain growth, every business needs to have a good understanding of their market.
Whether you are assessing the feasibility of a new product and venture, or ensuring that your business is providing the best service, a thorough market analysis can help direct your strategy. Who is your target client? What do they need? What is their feedback after one year? What else would they like from you? These and other questions need to be asked regularly throughout the life of a business.

What's been your most outstanding business achievement?
Completing an in depth analysis of a local government area's legal needs in around four weeks instead of three months and not stressing out when they asked me to quickly drum up a presentation for the board too.
What are your top 3 networking tips?
- Be interested in others. Rather than jumping in with your sales spin, or a full description of what you do, ask the other person what they do, and listen.
- Networking is not really about selling, but about making contacts. Contacts who may sometimes buy your product, but more than likely they may know someone who needs you, or may simply become a great business colleague and sounding board. Too many times I arrive at a networking event and get bombarded with a sales spin for a product I don't need or want.
- Know your business inside out. Knowledge breeds confidence, and your self-confidence will be obvious to others which in turn will convince them of your capabilities.
What's been your most successful marketing progression strategy?
Working on my passions rather than with the dollar signs is the most important thing. I am passionate about empowering women and I have made this a big part of my work. I work with women in small business educating them on how to use market research, and I work on social research projects related to women, especially those suffering or are disadvantaged.
What can't you live without?
My new iMac computer. The screen is large enough that I can have two, and sometimes three sets of data showing at the same time.
