The Excitement of Making Change

How excited would you be if you realised that everything about your life can change easily with a few creative ideas? LOUISE CORICA reveals some simple steps you can take to make changes to your life and business quickly. 

All too often, in the absence of clearly defined goals, we can keep performing the same daily acts of trivia. All we are doing is filling up our day with tasks that may not necessarily be useful or productive. 

People can easily become stressed just thinking about making change. They think they cannot cope and feel so overwhelmed with their workloads that they don’t know where to start. Making changes in your business stems from making changes to your life. They are interlinked and if you would like to achieve the ‘business as usual’ at home and at work, here are four ways to make changes easily: 

  1. Firstly you need to make a commitment to change the way you think and the way you do things. More to the point, ask yourself: “How important is this change I want to make and what does it mean to my business and my daily life?”.
  2. Acknowledge that change is inevitable, and that it is better to plan a change rather than have those changes forced upon you, which could mean you having to do them in a hurry and leaving some things incomplete. You do have a choice in this situation.
  3. In our businesses we are consistently considering change concepts. Two important questions are: “When was the last time I reviewed my business strategic plan?” and “Have I included all of my ‘fun things to do’ in my diary (and actually done them)?” Making change, by redefining your plans so they reflect the changes you undergo at work and at home, is vital.
  4. Prepare realistic goals by having well-defined and developed plans that deliver results over time. When making change you need to have a very clear goal in mind. When your focus is supported by a well-developed plan you will achieve almost all of your dreams. 

Four Tips For Setting Goals:

  • Make a list of all your ideas of what you want to change
  • Know the “what”, the “how” and the “when” of what you want to change
  • Your plan needs to be ‘detailed’ as it is vital to the success of the plan being implemented
  • Implement the plans. This step is one of the toughest, it will incorporate all of the detailed notes you made in the planning process.

Jim Rohn said, “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you are in charge of.”

You are now ready to make change easily, having altered your thinking, and with these techniques you can follow it through to a successful outcome.
