Forgive, forget and focus

Health & Wellbeing
We often forget to give ourselves the space to gather our thoughts and feelings, evaluate what they are and where we are heading.

We need to anchor ourselves and listen to what our mind and body is telling us – sometimes even screaming at us through weight gain, health issues, stress or anxiety.

It can be difficult to stop ourselves from actioning tasks as they arrive, reacting immediately instead of taking the time to schedule, prioritise and respond appropriately.

But you can turn it all around in just five days. By implementing these five steps you can take back control, motivate yourself into action and build positive lifestyle patterns and healthy habits!

Create new habits through planning and getting started the night before

Too many of us leave things until the morning and are overwhelmed before we even get out of bed. If you’re organised the night before, instead of hitting snooze on the alarm, you’ll be prepared for the GET UP moment and simply take action.

Start by writing yourself a list and highlighting your top priorities. Include tasks like getting your outfit sorted, preparing your lunch and making sure there’s fuel in the car! It’s simply I talk a lot about with my clients at The Bahari Bay Company’s Wellness Studio.

Rise early, rise swift, rise productive

Getting up early in the morning activates your body and mind, helping to build healthy habits. Use your morning hours to get a head start on everyone else.

This isn’t about getting to work earlier, it’s about taking time to enjoy some solitude, watch the sunrise, brainstorm, consider your goals for the day, or factor in some exercise or meditation. This time is for YOU and helps you prepare for the day ahead.

Calm your body and mind using meditation

You are in control of your choices, so it’s important to make the choices that are best for you. Meditation calms your body and mind, allowing you to tune into yourself and your needs. If this is new for you, try using an app like Headspace or Calm.

Simply focus on breathing in and out, unravelling knots of tension. You can also use an anchor tool like Crystal Smelling Salts™ (take 2-3 deep inhales) to help you relax and focus inwards. Meditating will help make you mentally strong, aiding all elements of your life.

Prioritise and stay in control

You’ve heard it before and know it’s true, yet prioritising is often a struggle! Prioritising is the quickest, most efficient and less stressful way to move forward and allows you to manage those tasks you’ve been putting off.

Take some time to put your tasks on paper. Get your thoughts out of your head by writing a comprehensive list that you can work through. But before you decide it’s all too overwhelming, get out your highlighter and highlight the tasks you absolutely MUST get done that day. Then put those tasks into your calendar and just like that you’ve scheduled your day based on priorities!

Continue creating positive habits by building consistency

Intention and motivation are important, but action and consistency will bring success. Building consistency around your inner voice, your habits, your beliefs and your values will be the key to your success.

To build consistency into your day, you need to create a routine that services your needs and wants. Build your habits to fit the outcome you want, be consistent and act. The reward will be achieving, succeeding and fulfilling your goals, ultimately delivering on your promises to yourself.

If you have made the choice to take control of your destination, you are no longer leaving it up to chance, circumstance or someone else’s interpretation.

Your past has created your present. Your present created your today. Now start to build the future YOU.
