4 Steps To Starting The Financial Year Afresh

Business Consulting & Coaching

Whether you achieved great results last financial year, or less than desirable, this is the ideal time for a fresh start.  In the busyness of your business, it’s easy to fall into the trap of doing things the same way because it’s easier, a no-brainer.

Structures and systems are essential for growth, however they need a fresh look and review regularly too.  That goes for your personal life too!

Here are some tips to assist you to check in:

  1. Why? Why are you doing what you do?  What’s the big picture now?  It may have changed since you began.  Are your results heading towards or away from your big picture? For example, if you’re doing it for greater freedom and fun, is that what’s showing up in your life?  If you’re doing it for your family, are you still getting quality fun time with them?  What memories are you creating for them, and you?
  2. What needs to be changed, adjusted or dumped? Chances are there are old systems, habits and ways of thinking that no longer serve you, especially if your results aren’t taking you closer to your desired outcomes. Are you serving the future or the past with your present actions?
  3. How do you need to make those changes? Map out exact action plans, diarised for actual action to occur. Does it need to be gradual, or does a ‘rip the band-aid off quickly’ approach work best for you, and those involved?  It can help to imagine if you were starting your business/relationship/life from scratch right now, what would be included?  Sometimes a complete fresh start is easier than patching or fixing old messes.
  4. Who do you need to be, and who do you need to help you? Remember, you will be the common factor – what do you need to change in your own mindset and behaviours to ensure things are different? Changing yourself can be difficult without an external objective view and expertise.  Asking for help is a sign of wisdom not weakness.

Remember: change, like life, can’t be done all at once. Make a plan, tapping into expertise, and move forward, one step at a time, one moment at a time, measuring your progress and results as you go. It’s much easier to make small adjustments rather than get to the end and realise you’re far away from where you thought you’d be. Acknowledge your progress and celebrate your achievements.   If nothing changes, nothing changes.  It’s your life and your choice.

Comment below and make a public announcement as to the number one change that you plan to make as we start the new financial year!
