Instagram Shake Ups

Advertising & Marketing

Have you become resigned to the fact that you’ll never be able to keep up with the constant changes to social media algorithms or have the time to learn about its ever-growing list of features?

I’ll be honest, I’m a professional social media manager and I sometimes feel that too! But today, we can all be excited about some planned changes that Instagram in particular has announced it will roll out during 2022.

Here are three key changes and why we love them:

  1. Instagram is testing a ‘Subscription’ model for a small number of Creators in the US. There’s not much information available on this yet, although it looks and feels a bit like IG are giving Creators the opportunity to create a more consistent stream of income in a similar way to YouTube.
  2. Instagram is also testing the ability to switch between multiple types of feeds. For example, it looks like you’ll have up to three feeds available to switch between – one that looks as it does now with a combination of accounts you follow, sponsored posts and recommended accounts, one that is a chronological feed of accounts you follow, and one that is filled mostly with recommendations based on the type of content you are interested in.
  3. Our favourite Instagram update though (other than implementing the ability to post via desktop) is moving all video elements into one stream. No more of videos over one minute sitting in a different place to other videos. Happy days!

These updates will give Instagram users more control over what they see in their feed and make it somewhat simpler to navigate the platform.

And what this means for content creators is that Instagram growth strategies once again need to be reviewed and updated.

I’m excited to see how these changes make a positive experience for users like us! All this and it’s only February!

If you find these changes a little overwhelming and don’t know exactly what it means for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
