Take Time Out to Smell The Roses

Business Consulting & Coaching

We live in a fast-paced, busy, ever-connected and switched on world. It’s important that as you develop your speaking career, you put the ‘oxygen mask’ on yourself. First! They even encourage this on aeroplanes.

We are all someone’s son or daughter, brother or sister, father or mother. We matter, and we need to take time out for ourselves…stop and smell the roses.

In the lead up to my beautiful Mum’s recent passing, I wanted to spend as much time with her as I could. However, I still had to maintain my own life and respective speaking and health and wellness businesses.

As such, I made sure I ate well and did my daily exercise routine most days. This gave me the ‘head space’, mental and physical stamina to cope with the decline and ultimate death of not only my Mum. She was also my best friend, confidante and number one supporter in all I do!

By putting my figurative ‘oxygen mask’ on and continuing to do my daily meditation gave me a sense of normality, peace and calmness during one of the toughest times of my life. And I literally did put the mask on me at one time in hospital as a joke!! (Although it wasn’t connected to the cylinder).

So in your speaking career, whether you are starting out or a seasoned speaker, make sure that you put your ‘oxygen mask’ on and that you stop to ‘smell the roses’.
