How to Let Your Personal Style Shine Through Interiors

Interior Design & Styling

Choosing the right furniture and decor for your home can be a fantastic way to channel your inner creativity and allow your personality to shine through your interiors. While there are indeed numerous interior design styles that are trending at any point of time, nothing beats injecting your own unique sense of style into the place you call home. If you are someone who enjoys thinking out of the box and going against the grain, your interior decor can be the perfect means of personal expression.

Not entirely sure where to begin? Here are 6 ways you can let your personal style shine through interiors.

Don’t Sacrifice Comfort

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when designing a space is to prioritise style over comfort. At the end of the day, having a home that looks like it should be on the cover of an interior design magazine means nothing if it isn’t a comfortable space that you can relax in at the end of a stressful day. Your space should fit not just your personality, but also your individual needs. Hence, opting for a stylish cosy sofa over a luxurious (but uncomfortable) one is the perfect start to curating a well rounded space that is catered to your personal needs.

Pay Attention To The Little Details

Books, sculptures, paintings, vases and everything in between – these are the elements that truly have the ability to transform a space from generic into one that is irrevocably “you”. For example, if you are someone who loves all things natural, a rattan-inspired TV unit or coffee table can be a fantastic addition to your space. Additionally, don’t skimp on the small details – cushion covers, throw blankets, wall tapestries and other decorative items can be a great way to make your living room look much warmer with minimal cost and effort.

Limit Trend Pieces

Just because you see it in a magazine or trending on TikTok doesn’t mean that you should rush out to buy it. If you really want to create a space that allows your personality to shine, we suggest limiting trend pieces as much as possible. Yes, that Wild Child holographic table that everyone is going crazy over at the moment looks cool right now, but will you be able to say the same one or two years down the line? The nature of trends is that they are forever changing, which is why it is best to be authentic to the things you love.

Don’t Forget To Shop Around

If you want to avoid looking like your space came straight out of an IKEA catalogue (or any other store for that matter), then you’re going to spend some time shopping around. Although it can be convenient to purchase everything you need from one store, the reality is that mixing various items of furniture and decor from various stores will result in a much more unique looking interior. Avoid succumbing to the pressure of decorating your interiors all at once, and instead, spend some time truly thinking about exactly how you want your space to look. This will enable you to explore various options to find pieces that truly speak to your personality. Sure, it may take a little longer to furnish your space but we guarantee the results will be worth the wait.

Consider Custom Made

If you simply can’t find anything that truly suits your style at the big box retailers, you can always consider getting items custom made. There are numerous businesses and services online that offer custom made furniture, desks, wall shelving, sofas and anything else your dear heart desires. Custom made furniture probably will cost you more than it would to shop at your local furniture store, but you can rest easy knowing that your needs will be met to the tee. For example, if you have an awkward nook or space in your living room, opting for a custom desk or chair can be a great way to fully utilise your space to the max.

Top Tip: There are many carpenters and bespoke designers that promote their services on platforms such as Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace, so be sure to check those out if you are looking for pieces that are uniquely you.

Keep Your Lifestyle In Mind

Are you a parent, a pet owner or someone who works from home? Keeping your lifestyle in mind when you decorate is key to creating a space that not just looks amazing but also offers a high amount of functionality. For example, if you have small children, an all-white interior is probably not your best bet. Similarly, if you are an eclectic person who loves collecting trinkets and souvenirs from all over the world, don’t try to box yourself into a minimalist way of approaching interior design. To put it simply – decorate to suit and accommodate your lifestyle, likes and personality. It’s that simple!

_______________

In a world where following the latest trend is the norm, the value of having a bit of your own personality embedded into your personal space cannot be overstated. We hope that this article has inspired you to think out of the box when it comes to allowing your personality to shine through interiors.
