How To Become an Influencer in Your Industry

Public Relations & Media Services

Being a person of influence in your industry can offer many rewarding benefits. It can help you build a reputable brand and attract potential client or customer to your brand.

An influencer is a person recognised as someone to look to for expert advice, knowledge and opinions. To become a person of influence in your industry, there’s a need for unyielding dedication and effort to serving others.

Here are my four top tips on how to become an influencer in your industry:

  1. Understand your goals and motives

Determine why you want to be perceived as a recognised expert in your industry. If it is purely to generate sales, your audience will see through this. There needs to be a deeper purpose than generating sales and business growth. For instance, to establish and build relationship with others or to share your expert knowledge on topics your audience can resonate with.

  1. Put yourself forward

Putting yourself centre stage can be very daunting and uncomfortable. Shake off self-doubt as it can hold you back. What you need to understand is that we all have unique stories that can resonate with others in some way. By putting yourself forward, you have the ability to inspire others and you may also influence future decisions.

  1. Find your niche

Being the go to expert can be a powerful tool in building a positive reputation and credibility for your brand. Don’t be the expert person that tries to please everybody.  Find your niche and focus on being a specialised expert in that field. Use your experiences and knowledge and determine who you are, what you stand for and what you can offer.

  1. It’s all about your audience

Always put your audience first. By sharing your expert commentary or advice, you are more likely to inspire and motivate them. For example, if you are a PR consultant, you could share your tips on how to create a successful PR strategy. As such, it’s not just about being good at what you do, people are now invested in what you have to offer.

Becoming an influencer has now become all about your personal brand, what you stand for and how you are perceived. It is an effective way of establishing and building a reputable brand in a way that enhances your reputation and credibility.
